The short version
the YardOn team runs YardOn. We use your address to find your yard and build your plan. We collect only what YardOn needs to work. We don't sell your personal information, we don't show ads, and we don't use tracking cookies. If any of that changes, we will ask you first.
What we collect
- The address you type, so we can find your yard on a map and work out your state, ZIP code and planting zone.
- The areas you trace or type in, and the square feet they come to.
- Your email address, only if you ask us to send your plan.
- Basic technical records that every website keeps, such as your device type, internet address and the pages and searches you made, held for a short time by our hosting provider to run and protect the site.
If you measure from your own photo, the photo stays on your device. It is not sent to us. YardOn does not ask for your device's location.
How we use it
- To show your yard from above and measure it.
- To build your plan for your state and zone.
- To email the plan you asked for, and keep a record of it.
- To keep the site working and stop abuse.
- To make YardOn better.
We email only what you ask for. If we later offer seasonal reminders or news, you will choose whether to get them, and every such email will have a way to stop.
How long we keep it
- Address searches and lot lines are saved for a short time, from a day up to 30 days, so repeat searches are fast and we don't pay for the same lookup twice.
- When you send yourself a plan, we keep a record of the email address, the address you entered and your yard's numbers until you ask us to delete it.
- Technical records are kept by our hosting provider for a short time under its own policy.
Who helps us run YardOn
These companies handle information so the service can work, each under its own privacy policy. We share only what each one needs.
- Cloudflare hosts the site and runs the check that tells people from automated scripts.
- Esri supplies the aerial imagery. Your browser asks Esri for the map pictures around your address.
- OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) turns the address you type into a place on the map.
- Regrid supplies lot lines from public parcel records. We use the outline and size only.
- phzmapi.org, a free public service built on the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map, gives the planting zone for a ZIP code.
- Our email provider delivers your plan.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect YardOn or its users from fraud or abuse.
Tracking and Do Not Track
YardOn does not track you across other websites, and it does not let advertisers or other companies do so on our site. Because we don't track, the site works the same whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track signal. The Cookie Policy lists the few things your browser stores.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show you, correct or delete the information we hold about you, and we will do it. Reply to any email from YardOn and we will take care of it. Depending on where you live, you may have more rights under your state's law, and we will honor them.
Security
Information travels over encrypted connections. Our keys for outside services are stored with our hosting provider, not in the website's code. No system is perfectly secure, so we collect as little as we can.
Children
YardOn is for adults who look after a property. It is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and tell you on the site before the change applies.
